Just before my mother passed, I saw what looked like a grey mist coming from the right side of her neck. It felt like I was witnessing something significant, and I’ve often wondered if it was her life force beginning to leave her body.
Any insight you could share would mean so much.

What you witnessed is something many people report at the bedside of a dying loved one, even though it’s rarely talked about.
In Angelic Attendants: What Really Happens as We Transition from This Life Into the Next, I explain that during the Twelve Phases of Transition®, the spirit gently begins to separate from the body. This energy is often perceived as a mist or vapor, and it can appear in areas like the head or neck as the transition progresses.
From my perspective, it’s very possible you were seeing your mom’s life force/spirit beginning to release. It’s part of a natural, peaceful process, supported by angels and the spirits of loved ones.
You were witnessing something sacred and your ability to see it speaks to your own intuitive sensitivity.

Hi Julie – I recently purchased and read your book, Angelic Attendants, and appreciated and enjoyed the information. I am my Mom’s 24/7 caregiver since 1-3-25 and have had the opportunity to see many different changes in her from and through dementia. I’ve also had the opportunity, as her daughter/advocate to do what I can to help her live the best quality life that I can as long as she chooses to be here. She boldly told me 3 months back that she would be leaving and handed her house off to me and was proceeding to try and make sure her affairs were in order. Since then she told me that she doesn’t know why she is still here and that she feels like she is living between two dimension’s. She said that she feels like she was “pushed” back here and doesn’t understand why. Since then she has resolved to accept things as they are imploring God to tell her why she is here. She turned 93 in March and is doing very well physically. Her dementia is in and out which is due to past falls two of which were very severe falls that caused brain bleeds. Overall she is doing remarkably well. She forgets a lot and easily but we are navigating that pretty well. I believe that my Mom and I are learning to bring our “puzzle pieces” together that is something we signed up for and once they are ‘interlocked’ we will have accomplished what we came here for which seems to boil down to “relationship”. Doesn’t everything seem to come down to that?! Love never fails.
