Healing Techniques

Cara from Los Angeles, CA, asked:

Hey Julie,

I just started listening to your podcast and I am hooked! I have 2 questions.

I am a Reiki healer and have recently begun channeling people who have crossed over for my clients. I have yet to connect with my own passed loved ones, and when I do connect with my clients’ loved ones, it isn’t super clear to me who I am talking to. I just get vivid pictures/words and recently more physical sensations. I relay the message and then my clients put the pieces together.

Will I ever be able to distinguish and know exactly who I am connecting to without having to ask my clients? And when will I be able to connect with my loved ones?

Also, a psychic once said to me that my grandmother is around me but that she will only be around me for 7 more years. What does that mean and where is she going?

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you and will continue to listen to your podcasts!!! Love and light, Cara

Hi Cara,

Thanks for those kind words about my show.

Regarding your questions about connecting with deceased loved ones, it sounds like you’re well on your way. Your abilities will continue to develop as you use them. It’s just like any other skill and will get better with lots of practice. I’ve been doing this work for over 20 years and my abilities continue to get better all the time.

You may want to simply ask the spirit with whom you’re communicating for its name. Their answer will come to you within a second. If you think about it for more than that, it’ll most likely be your brain answering you. I receive information in my head. It’s a combination of visual scenes, direct knowing, and hearing the answer. I believe it’s telepathic communication and that anyone can learn how to do it. Consider indigenous cultures like the Aborigines in Australia. They have been communicating telepathically with one another over vast distances for millennia.

I choose to convey all the information I receive. After all, who am I to judge what my client needs to hear? As a messenger, I believe I wouldn’t receive information if it wasn’t supposed to be passed along to my client. Many psychics however, when conveying information they spiritually receive, will edit out some of the details. Do what seems right and comfortable to you.

In addition, you’ll eventually be able to summon and communicate with your deceased loved ones too. Just think of whomever, close your eyes, picture them in your head, and talk with them either aloud or mentally. Again, their response will be the first thing that enters your mind. Also, pay attention to your physical sensations and sense of smell. Spirits utilize a multitude of ways to communicate with us.

Now, with regard to your deceased grandmother, she is always around you, (she was standing next to your right shoulder) when I connected to you. When I asked her why the psychic told you she’d only be around you for seven years, your grandmother said that particular psychic was raised in a culture that believed the spirit moves on from the earth plane after seven years. We all have filters we use (sometimes unconsciously) that reflect religions, superstitions, and other beliefs we’re taught as children and throughout our lives.

So, the good news is, your grandmother will always be around you both in this lifetime and most likely in many of the next ones too.

Good luck with your practice. You may want to check out Hands of Light by Barbara Brennan, PhD. It was the first text book used when beginning my study of energy work. I believe you’ll find it both interesting and informative.

Thanks for your question.

Self Worth

Ana from Melbourne, Australia, asked:

Dear Julie,

My name is Ana and I am 24 years old. I’m from Colombia but I’ve been living in Australia for a while. My mom loves your program and talks about it a lot so I thought it would be great to get in touch with you.

Three and a half years ago I had a baby. She passed away when she was three months old.

After my daughter died, the relationship with my ex-partner got really bad and we broke up. I’m now dating someone new.

At this point, after all I’ve been through, I find myself feeling very insecure about relationships and about myself. I don’t feel good enough for anyone.

I would really appreciate it if you could scan me to look at my energies and tell me if my current relationship is worth continuing.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Ana,

My condolences on the loss of your baby. I can’t even imagine what you’re going through.

One thing I do know however is your daughter’s spirit is always around you. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that.

Regarding your question about whether or not to continue your new relationship, when I asked if at this moment in time, it’s in your best interest to date your current beau, I got a NO.

I also “got” that he’s a good guy and you just don’t feel comfortable around him. Not because of anything he’s doing, but rather because you’re not in a good frame of mind right now.

Your thoughts of not being good enough for anyone are affecting your ability to relax and truly find joy. And that’s understandable considering you’re in the middle of the grieving process.

Something that might help you is to meditate. When thinking of beginning a meditation practice, most of us picture a person sitting in the lotus position OM-ing for hours on end. That’d be great if anyone had that kind of time. What I’m talking about will take perhaps 15 minutes a day.

The point of meditation is to learn to control your thoughts. Few people can stay totally focused while meditating but what most can do is recognize when their mind wanders and then refocus on the meditation.

When we get into the habit of refocusing our thoughts, we can recognize when we’re having a negative thought about ourselves or a situation and change it to a positive thought.

Eventually, the ability to refocus becomes a habit. A habit that serves us in countless ways.

You’re the only one who can change your negative thoughts about your own self-worth and I truly believe meditation can help you.

I really like the Gary Temple Bodley meditations. They each last about 15 minutes, are downloadable and inexpensive.

Hope this information helps.

Sending big hugs to you and your mama in the land Down Under.

Missing Grandmother

Sara from Milford, CT, asked:

Hi Julie,

I love your podcast.

My mother was taken from her mother when she was just 5 years old (in 1947) and we can’t find any information about her anywhere. No one would talk about it with my mother. We only know her name was Vivianne Hudson. Can you help us?

My grandmother was very young when my mother was taken from her and she may have been a bad drinker. My grandfather had to come back from WW2 to get my mom.

I just want to find this woman. Information about my grandmother is so important to both my mom and me. I hope you can help and hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.

Hi Sara,

The story about your grandmother sounds like a book I’m reading. It’s called The House on Tradd Street by Karen White and is about a family researching what happened to a Charleston, South Carolina woman who deserted her husband and small child without leaving a trace. How interesting to get your question about the same topic.

Your grandmother Vivianne’s spirit appeared in my office standing in front of my desk with a noose around her neck. The noose, typically used to hang people, was made out of rope and had a loop with a running knot intended to tighten as the rope was pulled. It was made by a professional and didn’t resemble a make-shift noose used by someone to commit suicide.

Vivianne told me she was in fact a serious alcoholic. Although she dearly loved your mother and your grandfather for that matter, while inebriated (which was most of the time), she neglected your mom to the point of putting her in danger.

Your grandmother told me she was hanged by a group of vigilante-type men who bound her hands and feet, blindfolded her, and hung her from a tree deep in some woods. They then burned her body and buried her bones. There were 8 of them and several carried torches. It reminded me of a lynching scene from the movies. I don’t believe your grandfather was involved.

Now here’s an intriguing note. Although the men who killed your grandmother weren’t wearing the traditional white hoods and robes of the Ku Klux Klan, I “got” they were familiar with Klan philosophies and tactics. While researching KKK atrocities to see if there was a correlation between their techniques and your grandmother’s death, I learned the KKK was originally formed to protect women and children before it became a hate group. I also learned it was common to burn the victim’s dead body in KKK lynchings, perhaps to destroy evidence.

The good news is, Vivianne’s spirit is always around you and your mother watching over and protecting you and your families.

If you wish, I’ll be delighted to assist you and your mom in communicating with your grandmother to get more detailed information. Just go to askjulieryan.com and schedule an appointment. We’ll have an hour to get your questions answered.

New Opportunities

Danise from West Hamlin, WV, asked:

Hi Julie,

Since I listen to your podcast every week, I know you’ve helped so many people by giving them a glimmer of hope and direction.

About 6 months ago I emailed you and said that I felt a huge change was going to happen in my life. It has now happened.

I was let go from a job with people I love and with whom I’ve worked for the past 17 years. A job in which I have 30 years experience.

I’m a newspaper graphic designer and have ink in my blood. I’m 57 years old and am now faced with trying to figure out what the next stage of my life is to be.

Julie, I don’t know where to turn. I’ve never been fired from a job. In fact when I was let go I was told it was a business decision and that they loved my work. I guess they couldn’t afford me anymore. Can you help me please?

Hi Danise,

My heart goes out to you as you go through this metamorphosis into the next chapter of your life.

I understand how scary it is to be laid off since it happened to me when I was 24. In my case however, I used it as a path to figure out where I wanted to live and what I wanted to do. Within two weeks I interviewed for and was offered several positions. I accepted one and moved to Los Angeles. Since I started my first company there, met my husband and got married there, had my son there, invented surgical devices and founded several other companies there, and loved living there for 15 years, I can honestly say, my being laid off ended up being a huge blessing. I believe the same can and will happen for you.

When I ask if it’s in your best interest to stay in the graphic arts field, I get a YES. When I ask if it’s in your best interest to stay in the newspaper graphic arts field, I also get a YES – with a caveat. When I ask if it’s in your best interest to broaden your scope to include non-newspaper graphics projects, once again I get a YES (that’s the caveat).

Now, some suggestions …

In the short run, I “got” it may be a good idea for you to contemplate an online career. Everything is digital and there’s no reason you can’t work from home.

1) Look into becoming a freelance graphic artist on sites like Elance and Fiverr. It can bring in immediate income, get your name out there and perhaps lead to a permanent position somewhere.

2) Consider volunteering at a local high school, college, or university. You could share your knowledge with students who will most likely educate you on the newest trends in the world of graphics. This could create opportunities for you to network with adults and kids alike. And who knows, some of those kids may have parents and/or acquaintances whose companies need your skills.

3) Listen to the Design Matters podcast by Debbie Millman. Debbie is an award-winning graphic artist and co-founder and professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Tim Ferris says, “She’s designed everything from wrapping paper to beach towels, greeting cards to playing cards, notebooks to t-shirts and Star Wars merchandise to global Burger King rebrands.” I believe she has been involved with the packaging design of close to 20% of the products found in most grocery stores.

Even though Debbie isn’t a newspaper graphic artist, the fact she came to my mind when thinking of you tells me you’ll glean ideas from listening to her show.

Another reason may be Debbie is responsible for one of my favorite quotes, one that’s applicable to all of us and especially you in your current situation. That quote is, “Hard decisions are only hard when you’re in the process of making them.”

Follow your passion, take one step at a time, and trust you’ll be led to the next step.

Good luck on your new adventure. I truly believe it’s going to be terrific for you!

Tired of Fighting

Ashley, from Niagara, Ontario, Canada, asked:

Hi Julie,

I have had problems with my reproductive health for a solid year and the last month has pushed me over the edge.

My menstrual cycle is now out of whack and I’m feeling all kinds of uneasiness.

Please help. I’m so tired of fighting with my body to feel normal.

Thank you for your time, Julie.

Hi Ashley,

Sorry you’re feeling so punky.

Once I got you on my radar, I found you were full of inflammation from what looks to me like heavy metal toxicity. This condition can affect your menstrual cycle and cause lots of other symptoms.

In particular, you seem to have an excess amount of iron and cadmium in your system. I believe you’re ingesting both from your water supply and additional cadmium from cigarette smoke.

I “got” the iron was primarily from rusty pipes (do you live in an old house?) and the cadmium, a metal used to make batteries, could be leeching from waste sites into the ground and then into the water supply. Cadmium and other toxic metals can also get into our water in the form of road runoff. And then there are those cigs. Are you around a lot of smoke?

In any event, here’s what may help. Eat foods that will help you detox the heavy metals from your body. Some of those foods are: pears, green apples, citrus, grapes, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, brussels sprouts, beets, garlic and cilantro. Here’s a more complete list and here’s a link to what other foods will help you feel better … the Bulletproof Diet.

In addition, find a functional medicine physician and work with them to heal your body. A functional medicine doctor is trained to reverse engineer your symptoms to find the cause of those symptoms and help you fix it. Just go to functionalmedicine.org, put in your city, province, and country, and choose from the list that will be displayed.

The best news is, I truly believe you can and will heal from this.

Thanks for your question.

New Career Wanted

D.E. from Port Orchard, WA, asked:

Hi Julie,

Do you have any career insights for me? I’m thinking of a web design related career.

Also, do you get anything about my going back to school?

Thank you.

Hi D.E.,

When I got you on my radar I could see the spirits of a lot of medical professionals surrounding you. There were doctors wearing their long white lab coats, nurses with stethoscopes hanging around their necks, and what looked like other hospital support staff.

When I asked if it was in your best interest to work in a hospital, I got a YES.

When I asked if it was in your best interest to work in a hospital IT department, I also got a YES.

And then when I asked if it was in your best interest to go back to school, I got a NO.

Perhaps this could mean there might be on-the-job training.

Keep in mind, the information I receive for future events relate to this moment in time and is probable not certain. There are too many variables (including your own free will) that can determine an outcome.

Just focus on what you enjoy and the path for your new career will emerge. It’ll be fun to see what unfolds for you.

Good Luck!

Heart Cath Complications

Jack from Minneapolis, MN, asked:

Hi Julie,

A couple of weeks ago I went to the emergency room with chest pains. In order to learn if I had any blockages, a heart catheterization was performed. My arteries were clear and I was sent home early the next day.

Yesterday, I went for my follow-up visit with the cardiologist. The entry point for the heart cath procedure (my groin) was still very bruised, swollen, and painful, and I was told there may be a problem. I was immediately sent to the hospital for an ultrasound.

The ultrasound showed an aneurysm in my artery where the heart catheter was inserted.

Can you please scan me to see what’s going on? Thanks.

Hi Jack,

Wow, you’ve been through a lot in a short period of time.

In order to learn more about the cause of your symptoms, I energetically connected to you and got you on my radar.

I can see (in my mind’s eye) the aneurysm coming out of the clot that has formed in your femoral artery (groin area) where the catheter was inserted. It resembles a blister filled with blood. It’s called a pseudoaneurysm.

The Mayo Clinic website says, “A pseudoaneurysm, sometimes called a false aneurysm, occurs when a blood vessel wall is injured, and the blood is contained by the surrounding tissues.” It goes on to say, “A pseudoaneurysm can result from cardiac catheterization if blood leaks and pools outside your femoral artery where it was punctured when the catheter was inserted.” Sounds like this is what happened to you.

While scanning you, I saw an energetic healing occur that involved a couple of techniques currently used in hospitals to treat aneurysms.

First, I watched a long needle be inserted and a coagulant substance injected into the pseudoaneurysm. That solidified the bubble filled with blood. Next, I watched a graft get placed inside your artery to strengthen its outer walls. Arterial grafts look like a small tube made of fabric.

At this moment in time, I “get” your doctor will most likely inject a substance into the pseudoaneurysm to get it to clot. This will be done by an interventional radiologist who will use ultrasound technology to locate the pseudoaneurysm. I believe this procedure will be successful.

I also “get” you won’t need surgery and that you’ll make a full recovery.

Hope all goes well and hope you’re feeling better soon.

House Sale

Victoria from London, England, asked:

Hi Julie,

Hope you are having a fabulous new year!

My question relates to our house. It has been on the market for over a year. We’ve had a couple of offers we turned down and then just before Christmas we accepted a higher offer but then the buyer pulled out. We now have a friend who wishes to buy but for a lower price than what we’re asking.

My question really is, are we meant to sell the house and if so when do you think?  I would like to buy somewhere where we can build our dream house.  Is this right for us?

Thanks and Much Love, Victoria

Hi Victoria,

Lovely to hear from you and happy 2017 to you too!

Regarding your house, at this moment in time I “got” it IS in your best interest to sell it and NOT in your best interest to accept the low offer from your friend.

Having said that I also “get” it’s in your best interest to sell house when the right price is offered regardless of who’s making the offer.

Your dream house is coming and the timing is all playing out perfectly! Just trust in the process and believe it’s all working out in your best interest.

There are about a bazillion scenarios that can lead to you and your family living in your dream house and all of them will produce the same outcome.

You’ll see. At some point you’ll look back at this time and realize how well everything worked out.

Consider it an adventure!

Heart Stop

Catherine from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, asked:

Hi Julie,

The internet is a wonderful thing. Through a series of podcasts and health and fitness related blogs, I found your podcasts and website. I’m enjoying listening to your shows.

In one of your early podcasts you mentioned a book. I was driving and unable to write the name. Was it was something about wings? I couldn’t find the title on your blog or in the show notes.

I’m a registered nurse, and very much believe in the spirits that surround us. I used to practice Therapeutic Touch, but I have been busy raising my children and not practicing.

My mother in-law died almost 3 years ago, and I stayed with her in palliative care for about a week before she passed (she lived in a different city).

The night before she died, she was restless (not speaking at this point). I sensed fear and held her hand for part of the night (I was lying in a cot next to her bed).

I have 2 questions about this:

1) Do spirits leave the body before the heart stops? I felt like she left that night (not the next evening when her heart stopped).

2) Spirit-wise, is she something else besides my mother in-law in this life? I have felt her presence several times over the last 2.5 years, especially when I was competing in a triathlon about 6 months after she died.

I believe she knows how much her grandchildren and I miss her.

I’m sure you are very busy, so “thank you” for taking the time to read my questions.

Hi Catherine,

I’m delighted you found my podcast and to hear from you. Thanks for your kind words about the show.

Regarding your questions, spirits depart after the heart stops beating and your mother-in-law is always around you, your children, and other loved ones. She is basically the same, only now she’s without her body. Any (what we humans perceive to be negative personality traits) are now non-existent. They stay with the body. In spirit form, your mother-in-law (like all of us) is a limitless being of pure positive love and acceptance.

What a loving, kind, wonderful gift you gave your mother-in-law by staying with her and doing something as simple as holding her hand while she was dying.

Many of us are afraid of death. Watching a loved one go through the dying process is unnerving, especially because it forces us to confront our own mortality. We like to have control of our lives and our environment, and we often find not knowing an outcome to be frightening. After all, humans interpret ambiguity as a bad thing, when it’s simply just a lack of information.

It has been my experience both personally and with countless friends and clients that the dying process always contains a glorious component. What’s better than having your loved one be surrounded by angels, their deceased family, friends, and pets’ spirits and to have an angelic escort to Heaven?

Please check out the illustrations for the Twelve Phases of Transition on my website and you’ll see what I’m describing.

Also, the book I mentioned during an earlier show was Hands of Light by Barbara Brennan, PhD.

Dr. Brennan is a former NASA physicist who was able to make complicated energetic theories understandable for those of us with non-scientific minds. She founded an accredited healing arts school where people come from all over the world to study her methods. You can even get a Bachelor’s degree there.

Hands of Light was a book that launched my interest in energy medicine more than 20 years ago and happened to be the first text book used when I began my medical intuitive education.

I am a graduate of the School of Healing Arts in Nashville, TN and was taught by a graduate of Dr. Brennan’s school, Susan Austin-Crumpton.

Hope this information is helpful.
