Early this morning, I was startled awake by what felt like someone whispering the name Fred in my ear. I could hear it clearly and even felt the presence right next to me. I don’t know anyone by that name, so now I’m wondering—was this one of my spirit guides trying to get my attention? Or did I just imagine it?

Hearing a voice that wakes you, especially when it feels physically close and clear, is often a sign of spirit communication. In my experience, names whispered in this way are rarely imagined. Spirit, whether it’s a guide, angel, or a deceased loved one, often uses names, symbols, or sensations to gently get our attention when we’re in a relaxed, receptive state like sleep or just waking.
Even though you don’t consciously know anyone named Fred, this could still be a guide introducing themselves, or perhaps a loved one from a past life or ancestral connection. Spirit often shows up in ways that make us pause and wonder and that’s the point. It opens the door to deeper connection.
If it happens again, you might gently ask in your mind, “Fred, is that you? What would you like me to know?” Then trust what immediately pops into your awareness. Spirit often speaks in thoughts, images, and feelings.
You’re clearly open and tuned in. Keep noticing, stay curious, and thank your spirit team for showing up. They’re always with you.
