Dexter

Dawn from Birmingham, AL, asked:

My dog Dexter is a rescue pet. I’m unsure if he was abandoned, lost, or ran away. I get the feeling before he found a home with me he may have been mistreated. Is Dexter happy now? Also, is there anything more I can do for him, so he does not feel so insecure? He is always trying to please me and is very well behaved. Sometimes when I give him even gentle commands, he seems terrified, and will have an accident. I have never hit him, or even raised my voice very loudly to him, so where this is coming from? Thank You So Very Much.

Hi Dawn,

You are correct, Dexter was mistreated and then abandoned. He is thrilled to now be living with you.

Dexter is a dog that needs a lot of touching. He told me he loves to snuggle up next to you. He said he feels safe and loved when you let him sit on the couch with his back up against you and when you let him do the same in your bed. He’d appreciate a soft blanket on which to lay on both the couch and the bed. Dexter told me he’d like it if you’d put the blanket next to you so he can lay on it and touch you at the same time.

Blessings, Julie
