Gisela from San Luis, Mexico, asked:
Hi Julie,
I’m 58 and the oldest of six siblings. Four of us survived incest, which left me with deep emotional wounds that have affected both my mental and physical health.
I never truly believed in myself or felt able to build a career around my talents. Although I tried and had opportunities, fear and self-doubt always seemed to get in the way. I desperately wanted a family and did marry. I have a son with Down syndrome, and the extraordinary love he has brought into my life has sustained me.
I want to heal the wounds and symptoms I still carry from the abuse. I’ve thought about writing a book, but fear and shame keep holding me back. There are so many things I still want to do, and I know I have psychic abilities.
Julie, how can I release the fear and shame, become who I truly am, and finally allow myself to enjoy my life?
Thanks.
Gisela
Hi Gisela,
My goodness, you’ve survived a lot, and the fact that you’re asking how to become your “real version” tells me she’s already there. She’s just been buried beneath decades of fear and shame.
Most importantly, the shame belongs to the person who abused you. It was never yours to carry.
Trauma can create beliefs like I’m not worthy, I’m not safe, I can’t trust myself, and those beliefs can affect our health, relationships, careers, and willingness to be seen.
Regarding your book, just start writing. Don’t worry about publishing. Write for yourself and for that little girl who deserved to feel safe and loved.
And explore your psychic abilities. Developing and validating your intuition may help you reconnect with the authentic you.
Please also consider working with a trauma-informed mental health professional to help heal the effects of the abuse.
At 58, it’s not too late. Ask yourself, “If fear weren’t deciding for me, what would I do?” Then take one small step.
Your real self is already there. It’s time to let her out.
Sending you lots of love.

Gisela, de San Luis, México, preguntó:
Hola Julie,
Julie
