Carolyn from Lansing, MI, asked:
Hi Julie,
My granddaughter Addy has been communicating with angels since she was three, and she’s five now. Last night, my older granddaughter Mayah recorded Addy praying, talking to the angels, and describing how glorious Jesus looked. Addy told her mom there were little angels around her that only she could see. Hearing her laugh with them took my breath away.
My own spiritual experiences also began at three, and I met my guardian angel at five. I’ve connected with spirits and angels most of my life, although I suppressed it until about 15 years ago. I feel the veil is especially thin right now.
I’ve given Addy your children’s book, but Mayah is confused. I’d like to encourage both girls without allowing the disbelief or negativity of others to diminish their openness. I’ve experienced that myself, even from people in the Church.
There’s another connection I’ve wondered about. My mother died at 53, and five years ago, she briefly appeared to me in human form. I felt as though she was waiting for something. I told her if she was waiting for me, I wasn’t ready.
Addy was born two days later.
I can’t help feeling there’s a connection and that Addy may be here for something special.
How would you suggest we support Addy and Mayah without influencing what they naturally experience?
Thank you,
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn,
What a beautiful story. I can certainly understand why hearing Addy laugh and talk with angels would take your breath away.
First, I’d encourage you to treat Addy’s experiences as completely normal. Children are often far more open to spiritual experiences because no one has taught them yet what they’re “supposed” to believe is possible. Rather than questioning her extensively or trying to interpret what she sees, simply listen. You might say, “That sounds wonderful. Tell me about it if you want to.” That allows her to feel safe without influencing her perceptions.
As for Mayah, I’d reassure her that she doesn’t have to see what Addy sees. We all perceive spiritual information differently. Some people see, some hear, some feel, some simply know, and some don’t consciously perceive anything at all. None is better than another.
And remember, you don’t need other people to validate your experiences, or Addy’s. I’d avoid trying to convince skeptics. Their beliefs belong to them, just as yours belong to you.
Regarding your mother appearing shortly before Addy was born, I’d consider that a lovely experience and connection. Whether the timing had a larger spiritual meaning is something you may never be able to prove, so I’d simply treasure it without placing expectations on Addy about having a special mission.
Most importantly, let Addy be five. Let her play, laugh, imagine, talk with angels, and simply be a little girl. If her spiritual abilities continue to develop, they’ll unfold naturally.
And I agree with what you told Mayah: we’re never alone. We’re all surrounded by angels and deceased loved ones who love and support us. The only difference may be that, right now, Addy can see them.
Hugs,
Julie
