Tracey from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, asked:
Hi Julie,
I am really hoping you can help me.
I’m a healthy 61-year-old woman. In February, my mom was hospitalized for several reasons and, due to her dementia, was no longer able to live independently. I put my life and business on hold and moved in with her for a few weeks while we arranged other care.
Shortly after moving in, I developed a rash that looked like hives on my face, neck, chest, and arms, along with swelling in my face and around my eyes. My family doctor initially thought it was caused by the stress of the situation. However, when it didn’t improve, I was referred to a dermatologist.
The dermatologist ordered blood work, which showed nothing significant, and performed a skin biopsy that indicated a form of eczema. He prescribed prednisone, which relieved the symptoms while I was taking it. But as soon as I stopped the medication, the swelling around my eyes returned, followed by the rash.
My doctor isn’t sure what’s causing it and suspects it may be allergy related. I’ve been taking allergy medication, but this morning my eyes are so swollen I can barely open them, and the rash is beginning to return on my face.
Can you please help me?
Thanks,
Tracey
Hi Tracey,
Your symptoms are classic for what is commonly referred to as systemic yeast overgrowth and leaky gut. To get additional insight, I connected with you energetically and perceived your GI tract as being coated with what looked like a thick yeast paste. Imagine mixing flour and water together to create a roux used as the base for gravies and sauces. I also perceived tiny separations in the intestinal lining caused by inflammation. This can allow toxins from the gut to enter the bloodstream, which I believe is contributing to the rash, hives, and swelling you’re experiencing.
To help support your healing, I energetically cleared the yeast and repaired the areas of separation in your intestinal lining.
Here are some things you can do on the physical side to help yourself heal:
- Eliminate sugar and highly refined foods (bread, pasta, cookies, cakes, pastries, etc.)
- Avoid fermented foods and beverages such as wine, beer, alcohol, yogurt, sauerkraut, etc.
- Peel fruit before eating it
- Freeze and reheat leftovers before consuming them
- Discuss an antifungal medication such as Nystatin with your physician
- Consider using an antifungal cream for any itching
For additional information, here is an article by Dr. Kalpana Shekhawat, MD, from the Functional and Metabolic Medicine Academy.
I hope you feel better soon and find relief from these symptoms.
Hugs,
Julie
