Brittany from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, asked:
Hi Julie,
I’ve recently been thinking a lot about my family and loved ones who have passed. I heard someone say that a deceased family member will sometimes return to the same family as a new baby or another relative. The idea really resonated with me, and I can’t stop wondering about it.
Is there truth to the belief that souls sometimes reincarnate within the same family line? Could it be that we’re meant to keep learning, healing, and growing together through different lifetimes?
It’s such a comforting thought to imagine that even after someone leaves this world, they may choose to come back and stay close to the people they love most. I’d love to know your perspective on this, and if there are ways to recognize when that might be happening.
Thanks,
Brittany
Hi Brittany,
Yes, there is truth to what you’ve heard. Souls can choose to reincarnate within the same family line. It’s not uncommon for a grandmother, father, or even a sibling who has passed to return as a new baby in the family. Souls tend to travel in groups, we call them “soul families”, and their purpose is to keep evolving together across many lifetimes.
Sometimes they return to mend old patterns or to finish work left undone. Other times they come back simply to keep experiencing love in different roles, perhaps as a child in one lifetime, a parent in another, or even a sibling or cousin the next time around.
Clues that this might be happening can show up in surprising ways. A new baby may have familiar mannerisms, striking resemblances, or an uncanny bond with a family member that feels as though it’s been there forever. Children sometimes say things about “when I was big” or recall details they couldn’t possibly know. These little glimpses are often the soul letting us know, “I’m still here, just in a new way.”
The most comforting part is this … love is eternal, and the bonds we share never end. Whether our loved ones are in spirit or back with us in a new body, they remain close. You can always connect with them, ask them for signs, and trust they’ll make their presence known in ways that feel magical and unmistakable.
Thanks for your wonderful question.
Hugs,
Julie

I believe this to be true. My stepmother had a niece that died as a small child in a sledding accident. She was the 2nd eldest and was born later as the 4th eldest. She came in as a girl again. When I heard the story and met this girl I got goosebumps!
Question: my daughter passed away a month after my grand daughter was born. Can my daughters soul reincarnate to my granddaughters soul 1 month after her birth?
Great question!! Ironically, my husband and I were just talking about this very same subject last night. Thanks Brittany for asking the question, and thank you Julie for your beautiful response!
